Back in February 2018 Gloria Russell started making enquiries about entering a Home-Start team into an annual Plane Pull competition, which takes place near Bournemouth.   Fast forward 6 months and we are delighted to report that a team of “21 willing volunteers” gave up their Bank Holiday Monday to raise much needed funds to help us to continue to support local families.  Our team Home-Start Heroes pulled a Boeing 737 (weighing in at 35,000 kilos) a distance of 50 metres in 41 seconds.  There were 31 teams on the day, and Home-Start Heroes came in 8th overall – which is a fantastic result.  We are so proud of you all.

Can you spot someone you know in the team photo?  The entire Home-Start Heroes team comprised of husbands, sons and daughters-in-law of staff and volunteers, friends were roped in as well and friends of friends – well you get the picture.  The Meon Valley office provided the majority of the team with additional representatives from the New Forest and Rushoor & Hart offices. Bournemouth Home-Start also helped make up the numbers and as a result were able to benefit financially as well.  We couldn’t have supplied a team without all of these participants, so thank you to all the ‘pullers’ and their supporters  You can see just how close the timings were for some of the teams from the photo of the results board.

The sponsorship monies are almost all in and counted, which means we can confirm that over £2300 has been raised for Home-Start Hampshire.

We’ve uploaded a video of the actual Plane Pull to YouTube and you can watch it by clicking here: or you can view it in the window below. Just click on the play button.

You’ll hear the happy cheering and words of encouragement from the supporters on the day.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who took part; came to support on the day; went out, publicised the event and raised sponsorship; cheered loudly for Dad, persuaded their friends and family to help make a difference.  Everything you all did helped make it a truly memorable event.
